Officially the ‘Republic of Peru’ is a country in western South America. It is bordered in the north by Ecuador and Colombia, in the east by Brazil, in the southeast by Bolivia, in the south by Chile and in the west by the Pacific. Peruvian region was home to several ancient cultures, including the ‘Norte Chico Civilisation’ in the 32nd century BC, the oldest civilisation in the America.
Peruvian Culture has major roots of Amerindian and Spanish traditions, which is also influenced by various Asian, African and other European ethnic groups. Peruvian artistic traditions date back to the elaborate pottery, textiles, jewelry, and sculpture of ‘Pre-Inca’ Cultures. [ Know More About Inca Culture ] Peruvian literature is rooted in the oral traditions of pre Colombian civilizations. Spaniards introduced writing in the 16th century; colonial literary expression included Chronicles and religious literature. Peruvian Food is inspired from Amerindian and Spanish with strong influences from Chinese, African, Arab, Italian and Japanese cuisine.
I was amazed to see the unique textiles and handicrafts of Peru. And it was such a delight to see a lot of similarities with the art and textiles from the north east of India.
It is so fascinating to witness such diverse cultures and geographic distance still so much similarities.
Cheers! to the Indo Peruvian friendship.
